3 easy treks in the Annapurna Region
Poon Hill Trek
Mixing heart-stirring mountain views with enchanting villages and beautiful forests with a thousand blooming rhododendrons, this is a fabulous introduction to trekking in Nepal.
As the first beams of light shine across a panorama that includes Dhaulagiri I (8,167m), South Annapurna (8,091m) and Nilgiri (6,940m), it rarely disappoints. The highlight is Poon Hill, an hour’s walk above the village of Ghorepani. Watching the sunrise from here is an almost obligatory Nepalese experience.

Sikles Kapuche Lake Trek

Mardi Himal Trek
The Mardi Himal trek is a brief but breathtaking journey through the Annapurna region, beginning in Pokhara. You’ll be surrounded by lush green hills, snow-capped mountains, and stunning forests filled with rhododendrons and oaks. The trek will offer views of the Annapurna mountain range, Dhaulagiri, Mt. Machhapuchhre, and Manaslu throughout your journey.
The Mardi Himal, an unclimbed peak, is located beneath Mt. Machhapuchhre. The trek begins with a drive from Pokhara to Kande, followed by a hike to Pothana or Deurali. You’ll then proceed to Low Camp, High Camp, and Mardi Himal Base Camp. As you reach the final destination, you’ll pass through various mountain views, forests, valleys, lakes, waterfalls, and more.

Annapurna Region trekking information
You’ll need a TIMS permit and an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit to go on any of the treks in this area. There are plenty of high-quality lodges along the main trails, with hot showers and Wi-Fi available.
Most trailheads are easy to access, and all treks require only a short bus or taxi ride from Pokhara. However, the expanding road network is changing routes, and some people now skip the first few days of their trek by driving up the valley.
After completing their trek, many hikers end their journey in Pokhara. Remembering road blockages caused by landslides are possible occurrences is crucial. To prevent any possible issues, adding an extra day or two to your schedule is advisable to account for potential delays.
